No One will Drop School Now
As per the data, India has the highest number of out-of-school adolescents in the world. One out of every eight students enrolled in a school or college tends to drop out midway without completing the education and over 62% of all dropouts happen at the school level, a survey by the National Statistical Office (NSO) of the government of India has revealed.
More than one-third of the dropouts (boys as well as girls) happen at the secondary and upper primary levels of education. While 19.8 per cent students discontinued education at the secondary level, about 17.5 per cent dropped out at the upper primary level. Even urbanised states like Delhi too have a dropout rate of over 20%.
There are over 3.8 crore students enrolled at the secondary level of which 44.3% are in government schools, a little over 20% are with government-aided schools and nearly 35% are with private-unaided schools.
Financial constraint or non-affordability of education is still one of the major reasons for discontinuation of education in India. About 25% of the boys and 18% of girls drop out from different levels of education due to financial reasons.
Dropping out of school has serious consequences for students, their families. Students who drop out of school face social stigma, fewer job opportunities, lower salaries, and higher probability of involvement with the criminal justice system and lead to higher unemployment.
While the Government and non-government organisations are teaming up to support them, and are rallying behind their cause, yet all this is insufficient though commendable. Much help is still needed, and organized to have a meaningful impact on these lives.
THE PROGRAM
SAVRAM Foundation is initiating a program- “No One will Drop School Now” to extend support to such students whose families are unable to support their education, so they can continue to complete their school education. To begin with, the children will be identified in a radius of 200 kms from Delhi preferably those who are not provided any support by any NGO or not able to get any Governmental support.
These children will be identified through recommendation of various schools and/ or volunteers of SAVRAM Foundation beginning from 15th November 2021.
